US Airlines to Expand Service to Roatan

Dallas Added to List of US Cities with Non-stop Flights

            Tourists will be able to fly direct to Roatan from four US gateways beginning in late November, and total weekly seats on direct flights from the US will increase by about 600 during the upcoming winter high season.
            American Airlines announced in August that it would begin offering non-stop Saturday service to Roatan from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) beginning November 23, the weekend before the US Thanksgiving holiday. The flights will depart DFW at 10:50 a.m., arriving on Roatan at 2 p.m. The return flight will depart at 3:05 p.m., arriving at DFW at 6:35 p.m. Service will be offered on 737-800 aircraft, with 150 seats.
            In the same announcement, American said it would increase the frequency of its flights to Roatan from Miami from once weekly to three times a week, also beginning Thanksgiving week. American began offering non-stop Saturday service between Miami and Roatan last November. It added a Wednesday flight during the summer but returned to one weekly flight in September. After November 23, it will offer the service Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Miami service also uses 737s.

In addition to Miami, the others are Atlanta (Delta) and Houston (United). Delta and United each offer one weekly flight, on Saturdays, but United will add Sunday service beginning November 10, according to its online timetable. The Delta and United flights are also on 737s.
            
Between the new American and United flights, there will be about 600 additional seats available each week on direct flights from the US to Roatan during the high season.

 
From Canada, Sunwing will begin offering direct flights to Roatan from Toronto beginning November 18, according to its website. Canjet, a charter operator, normally flies passengers direct to Roatan from Montreal and/or Toronto beginning in November as well.

  • American Airlines, who recently began operations in late November 2012 with one direct flight from Roatan-Miami, recently applied for 4 more flights to have a total of 16 monthly flights. From November 23 a new destination from Roatan-Dallas will be open.
  • Continental and Delta had also tripled their direct flight from Houston, Dallas and Atlanta.
  • TACA has increased from 4 to 7 weekly direct flights from Roatan-El Salvador.
  • The tour operators companies from Europe and Asia have come to search for Hotel Capacity in order to be able to send more visitors to Roatan per month.
  • Franchises such as Clarion Hotels and the Black Pearl have already began operations and others of great importance are visiting the island looking to invest in a short term period.
